[BC] Sangean HD component tuner and Infusion portable Internet radio

Bob,
Why would anyone employ peak limiting or any kind of aggressive processing on
HD? It makes absolutely no sense! Run the gain down 8-10 db and keep the peak
limiting OFF!
When I was engineer for www.worldclassrock.com, the only processing I used was
a rechipped, recapped CRL SGC-800. Simple, high quality 2 band AGC. That's
all. Brought the level up a bit to help overcome ambient noise and sounded
GREAT!! Why process just for the sake of processing?

There are plenty of stations in the San Francisco and Los Angeles markets
processing HD properly (i.e. with separate, optimized peak limiting on the
FM analog and HD channels). I hear the biggest difference on hip-hop
formats -- the FM analog sounds dynamically flat by comparison to the HD.
When the HD kicks in, the drums and percussion start to punch -- you can
"feel the kick drum in your gut." This makes perfect sense -- the HD
channel has at least 5 dB less peak limiting on the drums compared to the
analog channel. I am hearing this easily on my BA.
