According to all of the early WLW information that I own or have access to,
WLW, 500 KW in the earliest years used 100% human control.  Now in these
Years the first limiters were beginging to be conceived.  The RCA is a new
one to me, the 110 series.  The Collins 26W is the earliest of my knowledge
As the station that dad and I built in 1965, we picked up an old Collins and
the tag inside the unit listed 1936, it was close in age to the BC 76, and
was a good gain rider.  It weighted about 50 lbs, it seemed if you had to
take it out of the rack to work on, but all in all it was of Collins or WE
quality, flat response and a good gain rider, which was based on simple tube
biasing, none of those goofy photo-resistors were made yet.
Let me see if I can come up with the manual on the Collins unit.  It
obviously did nothing for the pre-emphasis problem of an FM transmitter.  We
Just let it ride gain to about 10dB if I remember right.
