GE's limiter worked this way.
Audio modulated an RF carrier, limiting in the RF, RF demodulated back to
audio, which was then sent to the Tx.
Not very successful.

Peter:
I beg to differ with your statement. I worked at a station that had the
earlier GE- BA5 and the later BA-6 Peak limiter.
The unit had a vewry fast attack time and could run about with some regular
limiting for compression. We used the BA-6 at two stations I worked with.
As far as competetive loudness it was the best of the tube type peak
limiters (Gates SA-39, RCA BA-6, WE- 1126) until the solid state CBS Volumax 400
came into existance. Just my opinion.
Replacing the tubes and working on one was a "B..ch". I worked on both of
the ones I used and found a GE service guy in Dallas, named Dick Tulius and he
was the best at tuning them up.
Anyone else have experience with the GE BA-6's with the RF delay line?????
One of the anomolies was the RF generator, when out of wack, would place
the station at two places on the dial with the old Western Electric
transmitter. I know this couldn't happen and there had to be soemthing wrong with the
transmitter but the spur was in the audio output. I traced it to the limiter
and it went away after repairs.
