The BA-86 RCA was a solid state peak limiter that was part of a package BA-85 Compressor,  BA-87 Clipper.   The BA-6A  was a later tube type version of the BA-6  Peak limiter.

RCA marketed a model BA 86A and I am not sure if it predated the BA-6 or not. You would think that the model # would tell the tale, but with RCA, you never knew!
