[BC] processing way back when

When I first helped build WDNX, an educational station at my academy, we had
some kind of limiter. Was never able to fully identify it. It was big, along
the lines of the SA-38, had a bunch of transformers, and used light bulbs
(yep, that's right) as the limiting element. The theory was, as the light
bulbs start to glow, the filament resistance increases, causing a reduction
in current. Since the action of the filaments heating was very slow, you
could DEFINITELY hear the volume reduction. Talk about pumping! It would
actually work decently if you found the "sweet spot" of input levels. But
for it to sound good, you had to ride the gain so much that it wasn't worth
the extra effort. We didn't use it long.
