it didn't take long and has already broken loose. you have the right
scenario mostly. if you get up the nerve, get a taste at
http://www.eham.net/articles/15504

Gas was already poured on the fire when about a week ago, FCC announced that
the cw/data only portion of 80 meters would get cut 150 KHz and end at 3600
instead of 3750. the cw guys went ballistic over that, even though this
ham usually hears all of 4 cw qsos on 80, all below 3550.

Every cw forever op I know of is a ham over 60, who got licensed in the 50s
or 60s and learned the code back when it made sense to know it, but has
never operated anything else since. They seriously think today's iPod,
Palm, cell texting 15 year olds are going to get a thrill when shown an
operating position with a straight key. They are in their own world and
should have been bypassed 20 years ago. okay, in recognition that this has
nothing to do with broadcasting (but i thought the hams here would want to
read the news), I'll restrain myself.

<<<I'm so glad I no longer moderate an Amateur Radio forum. All Hell is
going to break loose. Extra Class licensees will be considered no better
than no-code techs by those who studied code at the original speed and have
long since forgotten it. I'm almost afraid to drop in to see the mayhem.
