Peter--
I've seen instances of mice in two ARC-16's in the past couple of years,
even with all the slots filled with cards.
Here's a link to photo evidence of one invasion:
http://www.geocities.com/aaron_white/burk.html
The second instance of mouse invasion involved an ARC-16 with all the slots
filled.
Interestingly enough, the second instance was at a site formerly maintained
by the same Aaron White, who seemed not to know the value of D-Con at a
transmitter site.
My suspicion is that some mice are small enough to squeeze around the small
opening left even when a card is in a slot, or thru the round holes on the
back where BNC jacks might be installed. The funny thing is that in both
cases the mice ONLY invaded your equipment in a whole building full of
choices. Better a mouse in an ARC-16 than a transmitter, I think! Are you
doing something special in the ARC-16 software or hardware design that is
irresistible to mice? Can you share the secret?
Happy Holidays

We've been providing snap-in covers for the extra openings on all new
equipment and "Good As New" upgrades. If you have this problem and would
like covers, please contact tech support.

I discovered the hard way that a Burk 16 with an open port hole in
the back did a great job of catching mice. Their nest didn't do that much
damage, but their habit of relieving themselves all over the circuit boards
was a disaster!
