I don't think I've ever worked in a market where stations wouldn't 
help one another in emergency situations. I've done a lot of network 
radio and would try and help an affiliate. If one station encountered 
some kind of disaster, several times I knew another affiliate who had 
a loaner. In every case they were willing to help. Most often, all 
they asked for was shipping expenses.

In many cases keeping a competitor on the air is in your best 
interest. As a programmer, I want the playing field to be stable. If 
a competitor is off the air during a survey I'm going to have to do 
some explaining to media buyers who don't trust the numbers. It does 
a lot to minimize the "it's a fluke" excuse for not making a buy.
