The radio industry has brought this on themselves with their claims that
IBOC is CD quality.

I don't understand this. I can copy CDs with bit for bit accuracy
until the laser burns a hole in the disc. Why is the RIAA so
concerned about the copying of material sent through cascading
codecs. Even an analog copy of a CD would produce higher quality. Any
of us can record any digital material in analog with no real loss of
quality. I can record any satellite channel and convert it to an MP3.
It reminds me of the early software days when copy protection screwed
up machines and did no more than make the software harder to use. I
think a program called Copy2PC did a bit by bit copy and protection
schemes were toast from then on.
I've already had false protection problems between my cable box and
my HDTV via the DVI cable. Last time I noticed, my TV doesn't record.
A few minutes after the flag is implemented some 12 year old will
figure out how to defeat it. The rest of us will need PhDs to connect
grunge-processed radio to a stereo system or iPod that will further
degrade the quality.
I already have software that cost $9.99 that allows me to backup and
copy everything on my iPod to any other iPod or computer.
