I can't believe what I'm reading, here...
All the "UNfairness Doctrine" ever did was totally stifle free expression.
Stations didn't dare air anything controversial, because they would have to
provide equal airtime, at no charge, to the "opposing viewpoint".
Nowadays, you have "Right-Wing" and "Left-Wing" stations and networks. Rush
vs Franken, for example. (Just spin the dial up & down the AM band.) Bring back
the "UNfairness Doctrine" and all of that would stop on Terrestrial Radio.
Stations would become more bland and homogenous than ever. Want to cause a mass
exodus to satellite? This would do it, as all those programs would flee
skyward for slots next to Stern, et al.
The abolition of the "UNfairness Doctrine" was one of the best things to
happen to Radio. I know that there are others here who would agree.
