For all the "knocks" against AOL... one thing it has going for it is pretty
darned effective SP at M blocking!

We haven't received a single virus attachment in several years, now. Not one.
Their filters obviously stop 'em cold.

At work (and here at home) we get maybe 1 or 2 SP at MS per week, tops. Maybe 1
or two legitimate e-mails trapped in the "SP at M" folder. Click "This is not
SP at M" and it comes right through. SP at M Can also be forwarded to them for analysis
and future blocking, so it, too, is like a community-based filtering system
with a very high effectiveness.

Now that AOL is making their e-mail addresses free for WEB users, I don't see
a reason not to at least give it a "test drive". Their sheer bulk also pretty
well assures that if a massive dump of the stuff is made, their system will
catch it before very long, and all future attempts by that sender will fail.

With FireFox and the AdBlock and NoScript add-ons, you can disable the
specific domains that issue the most annoying/intrusive ads, too. Those two plug-ins
make FF virtually impenetrable. I've even tested it on known "bad" WEBsites,
and got absolutely nothing harmful. You can even browse the handful of
interesting "geocities" sites without hassle.
