[BC] Vertical or Horizontal

Every ham knows the importance of matching polarities. In fact there
are beams (yagis) that have two sets of elements- you use vert for
mobiles and repeaters and horizontal for base-station 'DX' work. It
has been found that horz has the greater range- if the antennas match,
but because of the difficulty of using horizontal antennas on cars and
handitalkies vertical is more practical.

BTW- I remember the days of 2-meter AM in the 1960s- which was
horzitonal polarized- so to use it in the car you had to drive around
with a "halo" antenna on a pole. You sure got some strange looks with
that get-up- especially the guys who worked 6-meters- the loop was 3
feet wide!
