I remember the upgrade. I'm told there are several Boston-New York 
trains that don't change engines to join with Springfield-Vermont 
trains. What did Metro-North do adjust? Or did they have to? Come to 
think of it doesn't Metro-North use a third rail which is why they 
can't go beyond New Haven? As I look back on it I seem to recall 
Jersey Transit as the only commuter line that used overhead power. I 
remember thunderstorms regularly shutting Jersey Transit down between 
Penn-NY and Penn-Newark.

When I worked for IDT, Newark, thunderstorms were almost guaranteed 
at rush hour. One big lightning strike and the lines were down.
