[BC] Old Farts

  Well I definitely qualify as an old fart.  And I'm often nostalgic
for the older days of broadcasting.  Yes, today's solid-state digital
stuff is unquestionably better but I miss the romantic glow of big
glass bottles and mercury rectifiers.  And perhaps most of all-  the
styling and sturdiness of the old transmitters.  They were built like
battleships and would still be running if technology hadn't made them
obsolete.  Today's transmitters are like today's cars- marvels of
compactness and efficiency- but drab and boring compared to the big
old chrome-covered monsters of my youth.
