I "homebrewed" an Orban stereo synth for my college station, and
recall it was a simple phase delay line that would add to the left
output and subtract from the right output to produce a "comb filter"
effect, one channel having complementary response with respect to the
other.
A few years later, I worked for a station that had processed some mono
recordings through the commercial version of this device. After we
installed an early Howe PhaseChaser in the airchain, we quickly
learned all of the "synthesized" songs would drive it crazy, so we had
to 'phase' those out of rotation. (sorry!)
