Since Juan Ponce de Leon was Spanish,
it is probably a good thing.
This discussion of names, etc, is
indeed fascinating and I've seen some
"lurkers" come out of the shadows to share -
this is good!
And it is true that we have quite a few
here in the SW as well, both Spanish and
Indian. In fact, on my first "on-air" audition
(they had me read the 6:00 news cold),
the only word I missed was an Spanish/Indian
name from the other end of the state.
That said, why don't we let those who
would rather talk broadcasting avoid their
delete finger a bit, and move this thread to
the Alternate Frequency?
Anyone, everyone is invited to continue the
examples, and perhaps share some of the
reasons WHY names were picked or
pronounced differently that their origins would
make you think.
