While Emmis' bonus to the employees of KGUN, Tucson is rare and 
generous (having worked for Emmis at KTAR-AM, Phoenix, it's also not 
at all out of character), it is not unprecedented.

The Lewis family, the original owners of KTVK-TV, Phoenix, did the 
same thing when they sold to Belo in 1999. I don't recall ever 
hearing the total amount set aside to be distributed as bonuses, but 
I do remember that mine was sufficient to make the down payment on my house.

Kudos to Emmis for realizing (as the Lewis' did) the contribution the 
employees make by their daily efforts to the cash flow, profit 
margin, and ultimately the asset value of their station.
