There used to be an AM in Miami that had a directional array out in a bay
somewhere east of the city. The transmitter shack was built on a platform.
I remember seeing pictures in Broadcast Engineering Magazine. I think it
got moved inland years ago.
LF
This was built by Jack Roth's Mission Broadcasting of San Antonio. George
Ing was the Director of Engineering. It was manned 24 hour even though it was
a daytime for a while. WRHC was one of the call signs, I think the have
changed frequency and have moved inland. They main reason was that Hurrican
Andrew wipped out the site and it was doubtful that it would be allowed to be
rebuilt in the bay. Bill Bradley was their CE for many years and used to tell of
all the problems getting diesel oil for the two generators delivered to the
site and all the problems they had with fishermen tieing on an fishing and
getting hooks in ground wires etc. Also boats hitting pilings.
As I recall it was a Gates BC5H and a 1 kW, Backup. I believe it was 5 towers.
