Absolutely.  Any good organization hires people that they believe know what they are doing, and then they let them do it.

Right now I'm being hassled by our board president who wants to decide which songs to play:

Him: "Why don't you like _________?  It's a nice song"

Me: "It's not a matter of whether or not I like the song, or whether or not it is 'nice'.  What matters is, is it a hit or does it have hit potential.  I.e., does our target demographic want to hear it, and if so, how often?"
