Read "Strictly Speaking" or "A Civil Tongue" by the late Edwin Newman 
of NBC, then watch a newscast. I'm sure he spins in his grave every 
time there's a newscast somewhere. With cable news, that would be 24/7.

One of my personal irritants is "impact" as in "the legislation will 
impact the nation." Though it's technically correct as a verb, it 
doesn't sound right. Maybe I'm too sensitive when we have a 
government that governs by impact, as in a car crash.
