Any guess as to whether this was tropo or E-skip? I noticed many local
stations had very poor reception, with lots of other stations trying to
come in and making a mess of cochannel interference. I'm sure if I had
time to scan the band I would've scored a number of other good FM DX
catches.
Usually those conditions are Sporatic E. Tropo usually brings stations in
from up to 400 miles and those conditions are noted mostly on cool and foggy
mornings...more prevelant along coastal areas. Those conditions usually go away
around 10 to 11 AM and return strong around 9pm or later.
Tropo is a little more predicitable than Sporatic E. Sporatic E may last a
few minutes to several days and comes and goes without much warning.
Also noted that 10 meters was alive and well rather late. Driving home around
1030 last night netted a few extreme southern stations [Ga,Ala] which I
worked in the car with an HR2510 and a K-40 antenna
