Gallup and and Grants are at 5000 feet. Now, a friend
of mine lives in Candy Kitchen 55 miles south and
halfway between the two cities near Ramah and Pinehill
... at 7600 feet. Climate there is colder and a tad
wetter with up to 15 inches of precip a year. This
winter up the road around El Morro National Monument
lows were in the mid -20s for a few days in a row. At
CC night lows in the summer are regularly in the
40's.... if you want to grow tomatoes a hot house is
necessary for them to ripen as consisitent night lows
in no less than the 50's is necessary. West of there
in the White Mountains of AZ nightly lows in the
summertime can be in the 30's in the high elevations.
I saw the most amazing blue sky at 7600 feet. Shades
way deeper than we ever see on the east coast. You CAN
read by the full moon. Every star seems to be lit!
