It's great you have this "all of us are in this together" attitude. 
However, you don't enforce the laws. I spent 20 years in New York and 
saw many instances where severe beatings took place and the attackers 
got very minimal sentences. I met a gay man at a gym who had been 
knifed so badly his stomach looked like a maze. His attacker got 6 
months in jail. Clearly, the intent was to kill him.

About 10 years ago we had a rash of attacks in the West Village by 
New Jersey kids (called Townies) coming in through the Holland Tunnel 
in pickup trucks with several in the back with baseball bats. They 
attacked anyone who looked gay along Christopher St. One married 
straight guy was nearly killed. One episode had them throwing acid in 
the faces of gay looking men.

Even Gary Bauer who claims to be straight would have been a victim. 
He exhibits every gay stereotype there is.

If that isn't hate, I don't know what is.
