 >The founders NEVER in their wildest dreams figured on career
 >politicians. They were primarily farmers/businessmen who worked at
 >government part time and thought that no one would want to be in government
 >full time.

They were idealists, and believed in the basic "good" of man, but
remained skeptical about the practical "good" of government.

They were also deists, and did not wear a specific religion on their
sleeves, although they may have been, nominally, Episcopalian, C of E,
Presbyterian, etcetera.

Hence, they never anticipated PACs, and other corrupting influences.

 >If they had envisioned career politicians, they would have
 >instituted term limits. After all, term limits for the office of President
 >are a recent thing, Constitutionally speaking. If term limits are good
 >enough for the President, they are good enough for the House and Senate.

Term limits here in California has resulted in "musical chairs" career
politicians, where you can have an otherwise very good state assemblyman
being forced, by term limits, to become a half-assed state senator, and
then being forced, again by term limits, to become an ineffective, and
possibly corrupt secretary of state.

If there were no term limits, that same man could remain a very good, and
very effective state assemblyman, as long as he satisfied his district's
constituents.
