One of L.A.'s good to great NCEs, KCRW, had a 250 watt GE Tx with its  
Phasitron exciter well into the 1960s, broadcasting from the basement  
of the SMC (formerly SMCC) shops building, a few doors down from the  
print shop IIRC.

My own institution had an equally old exciter, a Serrasoid.
