Verizon Wireless is testing this, and it looks like something that could work
with dial up remote controls at transmitter sites where you can't get POTS
service. It's essentially an AC powered cell phone that terminates an an RJ11
jack, so you can hook up normal POTS accessories to it (phones, answering
machines, burglar alarms, etc). 

It also has a 3 day battery back up.
