Actually the Florida Keys are not mostly sand, they are actual coral islands as a great part of South Florida. The big Marriott hotel in Key West has the nicest beaches in the city and are private. The sand was trucked all the way from Florida City inland. Most of the sand in the Keys is essentially Parrott and other coral eating fish "poop". The finer sands of both the east coast and especially the West coast of Florida will only be found around the Marriott and other beached that had trucked in their beaches.

Any other Floridians want to comment?
