First, thanks to the multitude of quality engineers who responded with helpful suggestions from the field of experience!
Here's what I did
1. Power down, kill front breaker
2. Opened door, changed the 9 volt battery
3. Exercised the two ribbon cable headers on the controller board
4. Switched to LOCAL control
Powered it up had full front panel control of power trim and metering.
And Now, the rest of the story, I measured 100% neg and 75% pos modulation. Quick inspection found that a late night switch of STL RX from an Armstrong to a Marti, and I reversed polarity on the output.
I caused my own problem. Plain and simple. I have always liked that front panel input modulation meter. It tracks pretty good with my motorola monitor, but it also takes the antenna out of the equation for the purpose of adjusting the processing. Leftover from my DA days...
Several had asked that I report back with the final outcome. There it is. Thanks again for the generosity.
