Considering the technical and operational challenges of trying to cover a
narrow and in some areas sparsely populated swath of land (and mostly
water) in hurricane country, one has to wonder why would anyone would want
a full powered station there except in Key West or the more populated
areas east of Marathon.

But in my drive there a few years agao, there isn't much between the US 1
turn at Key Largo and the south side of Miami's metro either. So anything
put there needs to rely exclusively on local commerce.

A quick perusal of the sectional for the Keys shows only two towers 500ft.
or more. Most are 350ft. or less.
