Since new cars are starting to incorporate everything into a central
control system, the aftermarket market will shrink. Once car
manufacturers get over the sting of returned vehicles for "defective"
radios will they be inspired to swim in that tar pit again?

If the download time is what you think it may be the entire library
would have to be stored in the receiver. That might take up to a
week. That download would have to be continuous as radio people buy
receivers. How much of the already meager data stream would this
take? Will FM begin to sound like the SIRIUS/XM traffic channels?

Are any utilities using commercial radio data streams to control
water heaters?

One of the trades reported that 5 or 6 stations (noncomms) have
increased power. They use gummint money. I haven't heard of any
commercial stations doing it. They have to use their own money. How
many more people would they have to fire to pay for the upgrade?

My bet is that the new Congress will defund CPB. The first Republican
Governor in New Jersey in ages has defunded the New Jersey Network in
next year's budget. This is in a state that had, I believe, only one
VHF TV. It's WWOR, formerly CH 9, there under duress from the RKO
General divestiture and still acts like an NYC station.

When the economy improves, the revolution will resume. If you believe
that I still have a few bridges for sale at great prices.
