[BC] need a NON-technical explanation

Ham generally refer to a   *band*   in terms of meters.
A frequency within that band is invariably in terms of
kHz.

I was one of those that resented this 'change' thing
when  'kc'  was changed to 'kHz' circa 1965 or so here
in the U.S.   The rest of the world was already way
ahead of us.
