Oh, yeah, from a company supplied point of view, probably. I took it  
to be his own gear. Either way though, if I thought it was even a  
remote possibility that I might run into problem animals, I'd carry.

However, in the past 30 some years that I've been doing this, the only  
time I've dragged a gun along with me was for the sport of shooting at  
inaminate objects, or maybe a shotgun during bird season.
