Blankets
Illumination sticks (bend or shake to activate)
Heading pads (break or shake to activate)
Knife (hunting and utility)
Spare batteries (all sized needed for flashlights and radios, etc.)
Self powered radio
Sterno or other propellant
Flare gun
Survival manual (the boy scouts manual is also a handy thing to have around)
Maps
Aluminum foil
Trash bags
Rope
Canteen
Spare socks (assorted sizes)

On the other hand, a firearm might not be such a great idea for liability and legal reasons (you local circumstances may vary).
