You will also receive a better settlement from your insurance company in
that, at least in Michigan, you would be compensated on an actual cash value
basis (depreciated) from the utility where the insurance co would settle on
a replacement basis (assuming you bought that rider which almost everyone
does) The insurance company then has the choice of subrogating against the
offending utility if it wants to.
