My question is why would you get rid of a perfectly good solid state box
that can adjust to any power level with ease, uses much less electricity,
most importantly has abundant parts available? Heck you can run an AM1A on
a small generator you can buy at Home Depot...

Finding tubes and parts for some of those old rigs is getting harder and a
whole lot more expensive. We have a Collins 21E rig in full time service on
a daytimer that we've spent a lot of time and money on in the last few years
keeping it going. It's saving grace is that there are no proprietary or
obsolete IC's anywhere, like in a PowerRock (which we also have).
Thankfully it's being retired in a month or so.

Lightning problems do reek of grounding issues. I'd take a good hard look
at your grounding system and make sure everything is tied together
properly.

I would love to find a Gates or Collins Transmitter. I miss those tube
glowing. I have an LPB I can use for nighttime.
