A fun story to tell - -- At the WLS transmitter building the front has
the WLS lighting bolt letters to left of door. The WENR raised letters
were cut off and were right to the door. Recall the site was shared with
WENR and WLS. In one of the annual magazines published by Prairie
Farmer (in the 50's) on behalf of WLS a front photo of the transmitter
building had the WENR call sign blocked out. I think the WENR-WLS deal
was despised by the WLS folks.

Also front entrance door has raised ABC letters on both sides of the
door. Hmmm. Not for ABC network though...Agricultural Broadcasting
Company who was the owner of WLS and Prairie Famer Magazine. The
letters were apparent left for ABC network.

I attached a photo if it will pass. Being the site "care taker" for the
past 20 years you need a sense of history and humor. Everything is old
and very old. Just hi potted and ran TDR the 31 year old 4 inch lines
to main tower. Main and backup checked out a-okay. When ABC remodeled
infrastructure in 1978 they did an above average job that is still
working 31 years later.

A few years ago, when 670, wmaq, Chicago had their studios in the=20
Merchandise Mart, (and where LOTS of nbc radio network programs
originated -=20
like Amos & Andy, Duffy's Tavern and Ma Perkins) there was a wonderful
huge=20
map of the United States above the elevators that showed in colored
lights=20
the NBC RED and BLUE networks.

I believe in Chicago, wcfl shared the blue network with wenr. 'cfl got
stuck=20
with many "sustaining" programs.The Breakfast Club was an nbc show that
ran=20
on wcfl before abc radio bought wls from the Prairie Farmer and put it
on=20
there for a few years.
