A station which stall remain unidentified had a PD who DEMANDED the
loudest densest signal on the dial. He wanted the mond monitor to read no
less than 90% at any given moment. And he wanted a mod-monitor meter in
his office to monitor things.

The CE at the time fought with the PD constantly about the processing and
how it would destroy their #1 rating in the market if they did as the PD
wanted.

So...the CE personally did the meter installation and unbeknownst to his
staff placed a battery set to read constant 90% neg. and 120% pos.
modulation on the remote meters.  The meter bounced above that to reflect
audio peaks. The CE then went about setting the processing they way it had
been and they stayed #1 for years.

While the CE was on vacation, the meters started to "behave differently"
in the PD's office and he went to the shop and noticed the main monitor
meters were VERY different than his. So the on-duty assistant dug into the
installation only to find the batteries...had died.

The PD was of course livid. But the CE told him to shut up, they're #1 and
have been under the current scheme since the meters were installed. We're
not messing with a good thing. The GM agreed.....
