The simple equation is E = D / W
where
E is the equivalent number of turns
D is the diameter of the can in inches
W is the diameter of the wire in inches.

Example: A 6 inch diameter can equals 24 turns
of .25 inch wire. There is no mutual coupling since
each turn is soldered to the can for mechanical
support. Minimal end lengths should be used to
minimize lead inductance. This can be considerable
at UHF frequencies.
