When I checked my email last night there where announcements of a 3 way
deal between Univision and their WCAA 105.9, WQXR and their 96.3 and WNYC
AM & FM.

Basically Univision is paying 33.5 mil to trade WCAA 105.9 for WQXR 96.3,
both tx's are on the ESB site, WCAA will move to 96.3 which is higher
power, WQXR will move to 105.9, then WNYC bought WQXR on 105.9 for 11.5 mil
and will continue to run classical music on WQXR 105.9. NY Times then winds
up with a total of 45 mil's.

I checked and we get 105.9 in central NJ rather decent. Being on the Empire
St Bldg helps a lot.

There is an official press or news release on the NY times website

The QXR radio network. I remember it well. It was a
transmitter-to-transmitter network with rebroadcast receivers located on
mountaintops alongside the transmitters. WDRC, "broadcasting from Radio
Mountain in Meriden, Connecticut," was the station where I installed a
notch-filter on their Scott receiver so that it could pick up WQXR in New
York without being overloaded by the nearby transmitter.

Daniel R. von Recklinghausen, the Chief Engineer at Scott actually designed
the filter. It was an open-ended silver-plated coil in a cylinder –a
Helical resonator and it completely eliminated the offending signal while
not attenuating WQXR any measurable amount.

There was another station on the Rhode Island, Connecticut border that was
the final link before WCRB in Boston. That site in at the high spot on
route 44. There is still a FM station there, but I don't know the call
letters.

So now they are gonna be 600 watts! Wow! The accountants win again!

Cheers,

Rumored since January 28,2009, WQXR is sold to Univision for $45 Million.
Frequency swap between WCAA moves WQXR to 105.9 @ 600 Watts. WCAA gets
96.3
at full QXR power, website, etc.
