The Canopy device gets its power over the same Ethernet cable from which data is fed back to a LAN. You can't disturb the impedance of the Ethernet wire or it won't work, plus it needs to remain a metallic connection for power.
To run fiber, you would need to put everything, including the first LAN router, on the tower. Then use a router-to-fiber connection back to another fiber-to-router hack at the station. PLUS, get power to everything you stashed on the tower! Certainly, a piece of conduit is easier --if you can find the right length.
