[BC] Do We Really Need All This Deception?

It is old now, but my Icom R1 covers 100kHz-1.3 GHz continuous (cell NOT blocked), AM, FM narrow and wideband.  No SSB or CW but you can't have everything in a package about the size of the 6 AA batteries that power it (sounds pretty good too for a small radio).  I paid about $450 for it new.

Such receivers ARE made... and they have 5-digit pricetags. Wanna play? Gotta
pay! ;)

I have seen receivers that go from the Khz to the bottom of the Ghz bands,
all (analog) modes, in the $20K range. Spectrum displays, you-name-it. Amazing
stuff.
