You can also white-list-override a blocked range - say, you wanted to 
block Mindspring's' range : 24.0.0.0 - 24.255.255.255; well OK - but 
then you can whitelist specific IPs, like 24.142.212.12, or even 
specific ports at that IP, with all others blocked.  At least MY 
firewall does.  PC Tools Firewall Plus v2.0.0.5

So you CAN keep the baby - if you can see him through all the dirty 
water, that is......... ;-)
