Unfortunately, if I used this approach every time I got led down the wrong 
road by a computer customer support specialist, I would be replacing a lot of 
computer hardware. The only reason I mentioned the factory response in my 
original post is to prevent the temptation of someone writing back "did you call the 
factory yet?" The typical wait time alone with most customer support lines is 
enough to make me mad enough to spit nuclear waste.

So if nobody on the list has ever seen a netgear MR314 where the wireless 
functionality fails to revive after a power failure and not found a work-around, 
then I will find a different manufacturer.
