My idea would to use only 6 radials. In a new installation like that,
which is not done anymore, 6 radials at 1/4 wave would be perfect.

Scott, your mention of using only 6 radials reminded me of a system
marketed by LBA under the Basemax trademark. They describe it as a "base
enhancement system." It consists of either 3 or 6 - 19 foot aluminum
tubing radials elevated above the ground at the base of the tower.
Apparently it is designed to work in conjunction with a conventional
radial system to prevent major changes in ground system parameters
caused by snow accumulation, foliage, tides, flooding, etc around the
antenna structure. Check out the LBA web site at
