>>Do I dare point out that the (in)famous Sulzberger family, owners of
the
NYT, got their start running the Chattanooga Times, over at the other
end
of the Volunteer State? :-)<<

You may dare, but strictly speaking it's not correct. It was Adolph
Ochs, father-in-law to the first Sulzberger to be involved with the
paper, who first got into publishing with The Chattanooga Times, and who
bought The New York Times from the heirs of Henry J. Raymond, its
founder, in 1896. There were no Sulzbergers in the picture until
Adolph's daughter Iphigene married Arthur Hays Sulzberger in 1917, who
became publisher upon Ochs' death in 1935. Ochs' will specified that
the paper be kept in the family through the generations, and Ochs'
son-in-law, two grandsons and a great-grandson have been the publishers
up until now (all but one of them named Sulzberger, and one grandson was
married to a Sulzberger).
