I wasn't aware of the pat2pdf.org service. Thanks -- it's much easier
and faster than USPTO's site.

For you history buffs, here's a sampling of pre-1976 patents
describing significant FM broadcast inventions. It's interesting to
see why the inventor considered the object new or different; the
descriptions might also answer questions you've had.

For the PDF, just enter the number at:
http://www.pat2pdf.org/

SCA - by Edwin Armstrong, filed 3-1/2 months before his death: 2,773,125

Phasitron Tube - by Francis Bailey of GE (with help from Rube
Goldberg?): 2,461,250

"Pilot Tone" FM Stereo - by Tony Csicsatka of GE, approved by the FCC
and later adopted worldwide: 3,122,610

The FM/FM Stereo System - by Crosby, rejected by the FCC. Would this
have been a better choice? You be the judge: 2,851,532

Pre-Emphasis Limiting - by Erling Skov, employed in the Fairchild
Conax (a box originally intended for RIAA-EQ disc mastering before
finding its way into FM airchains): 3,111,635

Ring-Stub FM Antenna - by Richard Bogner (manufactured by ERI,
Shively, Jampro and several other companies): 3,474,452

"Penetrator" Double-V FM Antenna - by Peter Onnigian of Jampro, later
"cloned" by other companies worldwide: 3,541,570
