Actually things like that were more common then you might think. Dupont did
not want to be seen as a war profiteer during WWII. They engineered and ran
most of the uranium and plutonium plants on a strictly cost basis. And
several very brilliant managers and chemical engineers in the company served
at the salary of one dollar a year.

IIRC Thinking about Major Armstrong donating his patents for FM to the armed
forces for the duration of the war as opposed to profiteering from them-
things certainly have changed.
