[BC] Vatican Radio in bogus cancer scare

Okay, I think it's bogus. Booooooogus!

Anyway, read about it in the Oct. 2005 IEEE Spectrum:

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/oct05/1866

Some interesting things come to light:

Originally the tx site was out in the sticks. Then Rome expanded and the
area around VR's tx got populated.

Locals think the curtain antennas are "unsightly, " and Vatican officials
are "arrogant."

But you can't shut down a radio station because the antennas don't look
good, people are arrogant, and you moved in after they did.

Starting to sound familiar?

Oh, and tests are so far inconclusive (surprised?) so more study is needed
(of course).
Interestingly, at the end of the article it says that Italy has extremely
low limits for RF exposure and these might actually contribute to RF
paranoia rather than lower it. Because of this, the WHO is recommending
against the adoption of overly cautious exposure limits.
