The eight years I was CE at Z100 (1988-1996) we never boosted the speed. We 
DID however edit the crap out of some songs!

OTOH, at WASH-FM, we pushed "Holding Back the Years" by Simply Red MANY 
percent. I thought he started sounding like Carly Simon. :-)

Then there's "Imaginary Lover" by Atlanta Rhythm Section. If you played the 
album at 45, the lead singer sounded like a dead ringer for Stevie Nicks!

I recall CFL had a bit of reverb on their mics.? I once was
told that they upped the speed on their turntables a wee bit.
maybe all that was common practice.




I remember those both being pretty common. I had DJs wrapping tape around
the capstan of the rim drive QRK turntables to make them go faster. They
said it made the other stations sound like they were dragging...
