[BC] WFMT Pompus?? - Not Always

The name was Ray Nordstrand, not to be confused with Jeff Nordstrum (no
relationship).

Ray passed away a couple of months ago.

The Midnight Special, which still airs on WFMT hosted by Rich Warren,
has an audience that is different from the classical audience, but just
as dedicated.

Most of the time the station was ultra pompous.

EXCEPT - after the ten o'clock new Saturday night.

The Midnight Special - three hours of eclectic deviations

Ray Nordstrum (sp??) and Norm Pellegini alternated hosting the show
in
late 60's early 70's.

Folk music and farce, show tunes and satire ... (that all I can
remember of the intro)

They let their long hair down for these three hours. Program was
repeated the following Wednesday afternoon.

Phone numbers were NOT given in WFMT commercials.

You were referred to the WFMT Listeners Guide where the advertisers
phone number would be in an ad.

WFMT Listeners Guide was available by paid subscription.

The fact that some (many??) listeners actually paid for the
programing
guide shows their dedication and loyalty to WFMT.
